Could Scotland be the next 51st State ?

The Trump ‘rumour mill’ has been active again this week, with attention focussed on a possible ‘walk-away’ from the Ukraine peace negotiations, and the possibility of future back-tracking on prohibitive tariffs as part of Trump's now-celebrated ‘deal making’ strategy.

The Greenland and Canada acquisitions do seem to be on the back-burner – for now at least, although Charles may have some explaining to do regarding 'a certain speech' when he has his next audience with 'the Donald' during his state visit to UK. I did pick up on one quite interesting variant on the territorial acquisitions front which might be of interest to UK readers, however – 'bonnie' Scotland.

Apparently, Trump and his acquisitions team have picked up on the problems the Scottish Nationalists are having in government at present, and 'twigged' that Reform are likely to do well in the Holyrood elections next year. Their recent increase in vote share in the Hamilton by-election despite a narrow Labour win would tend to confirm the trend. With Starmer firmly under his thumb, and in panic mode following  a ‘good kicking’ by his electorate at the local elections,  and with Farage as his staunch ally on this side of the pond, Trump now feels he will have ‘all the cards necessary’ for a masterly coup by then if things go according to plan.

His Territorial Acquisitions Team's (TAT) assessment is that the Scots are still hopelessly divided on independence, and with the Scots Nats. heading for electoral oblivion, and a new Reform government in power at Holyrood in 2026, it could be all to play for.

The English (and I suspect Welsh) electorates are reputed to be sick and tired of the Scots whingeing incessantly about independence, and would be happy to see them go. Starmer and Charles could easily be pressured into agreeing an amicable split with UK after the 2026 election in return for additional tariff concessions and a (slightly) more favourable US trade deal (5% instead of 10% across the board tariffs should do it). That agreed, and the deed done (no need for a Referendum of course – Starmer has too large a majority for that little inconvenience to be a worry), Trump could then offer Farage a tempting prize for his cooperation in the transition – Premier of Scotland. (This would of course be effectively just a temporary state governership, but that would only be in the ‘small print’, and probably wouldn’t bother ‘the Nigel’ anyway, since he could use it as a springboard for reintegration of the whole of the UK as the v2.0 51st state after 'seeing off' the Scots Nats. in 2026 and then fulfilling his dream of becoming UK PM in the 2029 Reform landslide).

The newly 'independent' US state of Scotland would of course then benefit from a stable alternative currency to the pound sterling, and all the other ‘benefits’ of being in the US union. No need to suffer all the constraints of EU membership and the Euro then.....

But What’s the real attraction of Scotland for Trump ?

We know his mother was of Scottish descent and became a US citizen in 1942. Trump thus has a strong affinity for the UK, and Scotland in particular. But the real clue to his interest is his golfing business....

Trump already owns a course in the east of Scotland, and despite protracted and bitter battles with the locals, has long had ambitions to expand his Scottish golfing franchise. Having 'gone off' the Gaza resort idea in recent weeks, he is now thinking big on the new project and has a secret ambition to turn the whole country into one gigantic golf course.

This would be based on modifying the summit of each of the Munros (Scottish peaks above 3000 feet) by having a putting green and flag installed, thus providing a 282 hole national golf course with a total fairway length of more than 500 miles. Cable-cars would be installed where necessary for golfers and their caddies without the necessary climbing experience and equipment to 'go it alone', and PIR-activated floodlights would be placed on all fairways and greens to allow play to continue throughout the long Scottish winter night.

Trump is also particularly excited about a brand new venture into ‘Ski-Golfing’ in the Cairngorms, using bright red hi-vis balls and ‘skidoo-carts’ for the caddies & equipment. The new highland SkiGolf resort would give him a world monopoly on the new sport, possibly  becoming an olympic venue when the sport was given olympic status. And as for the variety of bunkers and other hazards, just think of the possibilities – the sky’s quite literally the limit !

All he would need to do to keep the Scots happy would be to give them all free membership of 'TrumpClub Scotland’ and he’d have the biggest golfing tourist attraction in the solar system. He’d also solve the Scottish unemployment, obesity and drugs problems at a stroke – they’d all be employed in constructing and maintaining the super-course, and be far too busy to get into mischief, drink too much, take drugs….or eat too much haggis.

Trump is reputed to have thought this latest idea up after 'brainstorming' with his TAT on his future options for his much trumpeted ‘Gaza Experience’ resort in more depth. Such was his enthusiasm for the Scotland project that he commissioned JDV as TAT CEO to research the subject personally on his behalf while he was busy 'sorting out' tariffs, MAGA, Ukraine and the US economy generally, all between his regular Florida golf sessions (does this man's energy know no bounds ?). TAT are now advising him that the Gaza project has too many issues, notably: ‘too many of the ‘locals’ left to remove’, ‘far too much mess to clear up’ and ‘can’t really trust that idiot Netanyahu not to bomb it all to smithereens again out of sheer habit’.

If Trump concurs, this could well be an indication here that the proposed Gaza project funding might be free to deploy elsewhere….

How much truth do I think there might be in this rumour ? Although the information sources are generally reliable, maybe not a lot, but with Team Trump still in 'Emperor's new clothes' mode, you really can never tell…..

Update 30.5.25: Oops - I spoke too soon about a relaxation of tariffs - a 'difficult' EU is back in the firing line with 50% tariffs now mooted on all imports....and 'aluminum' and steel are back up to 50%......happy days ! (see - I even got the new spelling right this time!)
